US Elections 2020 Trump vs Biden How Parsing Helps Analyze Media Sentiment

Online news scraping provides an opportunity to see interesting trends in media coverage of the 2020 election campaigns of Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Using scraping, 50,000 news items were collected and analyzed from 1,500 US news organization websites. The result was a comparison of how often and in what context the names of Trump and Biden are mentioned in the run-up to the 2020 US presidential election.

Data History

Methodology

Since early September, 71,252 news articles mentioning either Trump, Biden, or both were collected from 2,135 English-language sources. Articles from non-US sites and link aggregators (e.g., Reddit, etc.) were excluded, leaving 49,682 articles from 1,571 news sources for sentiment and feedback analysis.
