Marketing experiments with AI on a living organism

Today we are taking another look at Klarna’s marketing activities, and not because I find the “buy now, pay later” model particularly fascinating. What is interesting here is the kind of testing ground for AI activities within a living business that has been created at this company.

Klarna’s CEO, through close cooperation with OpenAI and a mindset that allows for experimentation, has already delivered two significant results this year.

In February, information was published that Klarna’s chatbot solves ⅔ of all customer support issues, which will add about $40 million to the company’s profit over the course of a year.

Today’s news is a summary of the first experiments in the company’s marketing department, which, thanks to AI, cut agency expenses by 25%. AI has been used to automate translations, content and graphics production, CRM and social media activities, and the company boasts that 90% of employees currently use this technology.

That’s why at Green Parrot we encourage our clients to start experimenting with AI as well. The rapid adoption of this technology will bring companies disproportionately large benefits.

Klarna saves millions with AI

Klarna’s use of artificial intelligence (AI) was one way the company was able to reduce its sales and marketing spend by 11% in the first quarter of 2024, according to a press release. This happened despite running more campaigns and creating more marketing materials.

Klarna reduced its outsourced better user experience translation, production, CRM and social agency spend, saving $4 million. Additionally, it saved $6 million on image production costs, despite running more campaigns and creating more visuals.

Purina saves dog paws!

2023 was one of the hottest years in history. Heatwaves flooded us time and again, and pets also felt discomfort. To remind dog owners that such high bulk lead temperatures also affect their pets, the Purina Brasil brand has prepared a special marketing campaign.

Wanting to warn people that walking in the heat is dangerous and can result in burnt paws, they created special road markings that are visible when exposed to heat. At temperatures above 27°C, red warnings appear, along with a QR code that pet owners could scan to receive weather forecast notifications.
