Online news scraping provides an opportunity to see interesting trends in media coverage of the 2020 election campaigns of Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Using scraping, 50,000 news items were collected and analyzed from 1,500 US news organization websites. The result was a comparison of how often and in what context the names of Trump and Biden are mentioned in the run-up to the 2020 US presidential election.

During the September 29, 2020 presidential debate in Cleveland, Ohio, Donald Trump told Joe Biden:

Media sentiment towards both candidates can be described as “negative-neutral,” and fluctuates up and down in response to events. For example, the presidential debates had a negative impact on both candidates. When Trump was diagnosed with COVID-19, more positive press coverage was seen, so the level of good news about Trump in the media was higher than Biden’s and lasted for a long time in September. But Trump’s early return to the White House caused a negative reaction.
Trump has more bad days than good ones
Overall, media reviews of Trump are worse than media reviews of Biden. In addition, media sentiment toward Trump fluctuates more widely than media sentiment toward Biden.
Trump gets far more media mentions than Biden
Since September, Trump has received cell p data more than twice as many media mentions as Biden. If you compare publications only about Trump with publications only about Biden, then five times more.
The longest week
Did you feel like last week was a year’s worth of news? It turned out that in terms of election news volume, it was only 1.7 times more than the average for the previous 4 weeks. Still, it was a lot.
Methodology
Since early September, 71,252 news articles mentioning either Trump, Biden, or both were collected from 2,135 English-language sources. Each site was categorized according to how to do marketing with facebook, the complete guide its primary audience country. Articles from non-US sites and link aggregators (e.g., Reddit, etc.) were excluded, leaving 49,682 articles from 1,571 news sources for sentiment and feedback analysis. Duplicate articles were removed and identified by URL and title+snippet.
